The establishment was funded by government funds and completed in 1872. The National Park Service took control of the cemetery in 1933. Located on 189-acres, this was the retirement home of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The house served to host world leaders and was a presidential retreat. Eisenhower purchased the home in 1950.
