Located on 189-acres, this was the retirement home of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The house served to host world leaders and was a presidential retreat. Eisenhower purchased the home in 1950. Situated in the Gettysburg National Military Park, the cemetery is intended to properly bury the Union soldiers who died in Gettysburg. The cemetery has been built on the battleground. During the Civil War the Battle of Gettysburg was a major turning point for the entire nation. Today, the National Park Service has preserved the park.
